How do I turn off the repeated security warning in Internet Explorer for XP Service Pack 2?

In Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed, Internet Explorer sometimes displays the following message: To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer. Click here for options... How do I turn this off?

While Microsoft does not recommend the following actions, it is the only work-around that will disable this security prompt for every IE window.

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. From the "Tools" menu, select "Internet Options..."
  3. Click the "Advanced" tab.
  4. In the "Settings" listing, scroll down to the Security section
  5. Check the box for "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer"
  6. Click "Apply" and "OK"

How do I find the TUIApp preferences file (TUIApp.plist)?
  1. Find the Windows key (it should be the second key to the left or right of the space bar on modern keyboards).
  2. While holding down the Windows key, type the R key.
  3. Type the following exactly into the "Open:" field: %appdata%
  4. Click the "OK" button. An Explorer window should open.
  5. Find the "TUIApp" folder and double click it if it exists. If not, there is no preference file.
